Understanding Kouka Score

A transparent 0–100 assessment that shows what the evidence supports—including uncertainty.

01

What Kouka Score represents

Kouka Score is our experimental 0–100 product assessment. It brings together four documented signals so shoppers can see a broader product view without mistaking one measure for the whole story.

It is separate from Nutri-Score, NOVA, and Green-Score. It is not a government rating, a medical judgment, or a claim that a product is universally good or bad.

02

The four components

70%

Nutrition qualityThe current Nutri-Score grade or Kouka’s bounded nutrition estimate.

15%

Food processingThe product’s documented NOVA group.

10%

AdditivesApproved additive-risk information in the product record.

5%

Ingredient signalA limited signal based on the top-level ingredient count.

03

Why you may see a range

Product labels and source records are not always complete. When more than one result remains possible, Kouka calculates the supported best and worst outcomes and shows the resulting range—for example, 68–82.

We do not replace unknown information with a convenient zero, neutral value, or midpoint. If nutrition evidence is unavailable, or the range would be too wide to be useful, Kouka does not publish a numeric score.

04

What the evidence label means

HighAn exact result with complete component evidence and no estimated input.

MediumAn exact or narrow-range result supported by at least 85% of the weighted evidence.

LowAny other displayable result, with evidence gaps and estimates kept visible.

05

How to use it fairly

Use Kouka Score to compare broadly similar products, then open the nutrition, processing, additive, ingredient, allergen, and environmental details behind it. When two score ranges overlap, the available evidence does not support declaring one product the clear winner.

Every calculation is tied to a versioned methodology and the product evidence available at that time. Reviewed corrections can change a result; previous methodology versions remain documented so changes stay explainable.

Kouka Score is experimental and informational. It is not an official nutrition system, medical advice, or a substitute for the product label and guidance from a qualified professional.
