Understanding Nutri-Score
A quick A-to-E view of nutritional quality, with the evidence and limitations kept visible.
What Nutri-Score tells you
Nutri-Score summarizes the nutritional quality of eligible foods and beverages on a five-letter scale. A is the most favorable nutritional profile within the system and E is the least favorable.
It is designed as a quick comparison aid. It does not describe food processing, environmental impact, allergens, or whether a product is personally suitable for you.
What goes into the calculation
Kouka implements the updated 2023 method. Depending on the product type, the calculation considers energy, sugars, saturated fat, salt, fibre, protein, and qualifying fruit, vegetable, and legume evidence. Beverages, cheese, red meat, and fats, nuts, and seeds have specific calculation rules.
Why a grade can be missing
A reliable calculation needs compatible nutrition values and evidence for the correct product case. When required information is missing or still awaiting review, Kouka shows that clearly instead of silently treating an unknown value as zero.
How to use it
Compare similar products, then look at the detailed nutrition, ingredients, allergens, NOVA group, and environmental information for the fuller picture. No single grade should make the whole decision for you.
Nutri-Score is informational and is not medical or dietary advice. Individual needs, allergies, health conditions, and serving patterns require their own consideration.
